Chris & Abby Johnson

The First Conversation

It starts with a call or a message — nothing more. Chris and Abby sit down with you to listen. Where do you want to build? What does your ideal home feel like? What matters most to your family? There is no pitch, no pressure, and no commitment required. Just two people who genuinely want to understand your vision before they say a single word about how to build it.

Finding Your Land

Already own a lot? Great — we start there. Need to find one? That is where Chris’s deep local knowledge of Guilford and Rockingham County becomes your greatest advantage. He knows which parcels are buildable, which have complications, and which will give you the light, the views, and the life you are looking for. We walk the land together before a single plan is drawn.

Designing Your Floor Plan

No templates. No preset options. Chris works with you to develop a floor plan built entirely around your lot, your lifestyle, and your family’s actual patterns of living. Where does the morning sun hit? How does your family move through a home on a Tuesday evening? What do you want to see when you wake up? Every room, every dimension, every structural detail is considered with those questions in mind.

Permitting & Pre-Construction

Before a shovel touches the ground, everything has to be right on paper. CAD Home Crafters handles all permitting, engineering coordination, and pre-construction approvals on your behalf. Chris’s NC Unlimited General Contractor License means there are no budget ceilings, no scope limitations, and no bureaucratic surprises. By the time we break ground, every stakeholder — municipality, engineer, inspector — is already aligned.

Breaking Ground

This is the moment everything becomes real. Site preparation, grading, and foundation work begin. Chris is on site from day one — not delegating, not supervising from afar. Every CAD home is built by a crew that has earned their place on this job site, held to standards most builders in this region never ask of their trades. You are welcome to visit any time. We have nothing to hide and everything to be proud of.

Framing & Systems

The bones of your home go up. Walls, roof structure, mechanical rough-ins — electrical, plumbing, HVAC. This phase moves quickly and visibly, and it is where the floor plan you designed together starts to feel like a real space you can walk through. Inspections happen at every required stage. Nothing gets covered up until it has been done right.

Enclosure & Interior Begins

Insulation, drywall, and exterior cladding close the home in. Then the interior work Abby helped you plan starts arriving — flooring, tile, cabinetry, and the first layers of finish that transform a drywall box into the home you imagined. This is the most satisfying phase to visit. Week by week, it starts to look exactly like what you chose.

Finish Work & Details

Trim. Millwork. Paint. Fixtures. Hardware. The elements that separate a well-built house from a home someone will never want to leave. This is where CAD Home Crafters’ standard shows most visibly — in the tightness of a mitered corner, the weight of a door that swings just right, the grout lines that are still perfect five years from now. These are the ten thousand small decisions that define the finished product.

The Final Walkthrough

Before we hand over the keys, Chris and Abby walk every inch of the home with you. Every room. Every detail. Every finish. If anything is not exactly right, we make it right before you move in — not after. This walkthrough is not a formality. It is the last time we get to look at this home with builder’s eyes before it becomes yours, and we take it seriously.

The Keys Are Yours.

This is the moment everything was for. The home you described in that first conversation — the rooms, the light, the finishes, the life you were picturing — is now real and it is yours. CAD Home Crafters builds homes that families grow into for generations. When you walk through that door for the first time as the owner, it should feel exactly like you imagined it. Because it was built exactly the way you wanted. Ask the families who have already been here.
